"Communication is power. Those who have mastered its effective use can change their own experience of the world and the world's experience of them. All behavior and feelings find their original roots in some form of communication." - Tony Robbins
Communications includes spelling, vocabulary, grammar, writing, and speaking, listening, and collaboration. The Amplify CKLA program will be used to guide student research and writing about topics they truly enjoy! A list of domain topics can be found in the reading tab, above.
Spelling, Vocabulary, and Grammar The skills covered in 3rd grade are presented in this photo, from the CKLA program guide.
Daily Grammar and Writing Schedules Grammar
Direct instruction of new and previously taught skills will occur daily. Students will use mentor sentences found in our student readers to increase their knowledge of correct grammar use in the context of what real authors do.
Most grammar usage will be assessed through writing. Some will be assessed through weekly quizzes and also through NWEA testing.
Writing
Writing will be planned, discussed, and started in whole group meetings and paired discussions.
All final copies of our work will be typed and stored in each student's Google Drive.
We will explore persuasive, informational, and descriptive, writing as well as writing personal narratives and quick writes.
We will write about fiction and non-fiction topics.
All of our writing will be connected to the reading experiences we are having in class as well as the PBL and Genius Hour work we are completing.
Some of the topics we will write about include:
Newspaper reports about real inventions
Digital quests in the company of ancient people
Reflecting on the universe with astronomy lab observations
